British Columbia’s unique landscape makes private land conservation an important, effective and, often, necessary tool to protect our special places. Much of BC’s private land is concentrated in areas of high ecological importance, in valley bottoms and other arable areas, and not surprisingly, in areas of long-time human settlement. If we are to protect our remarkable biodiversity, ensure ongoing access to the land for farmers and continue to celebrate our unique cultural heritage, then we will inevitably be dealing with private land transactions.
Change Canada Consultants supports land trusts, conservation organizations and governments who are working with landowners to steward and/or secure the permanent protection of these special places. We host both introductory and advanced training workshops throughout the year, and we would also be happy to customize a workshop to your particular needs. These intensive workshops cover a wide range of topics from understanding BC’s biogeoclimatic zones and BC conservation issues in general, to a review of pertinent legislation and jurisdictional issues. They also provide an orientation to many of the tools of the trade, including mapping, species identification, landowner contact programs, fundraising strategies and document preparation.
Depending upon your specific circumstances, Change Canada Consultants can also provide supplementary supports, including drafting and review of legal agreements, land negotiation and conservation planning, as well as the development of conservation covenants (easements) and land acquisition strategies.
